Updated November 4, 2026. Ratings and versions checked on the App Store on November 4, 2026.

The best Zcash wallet for iPhone is one that's shielded by default and ready for NU7. Vizor and Zodl (formerly Zashi) both are, and both pair with Ledger and Keystone. Pick Vizor if you want several recovery phrases in one app, Ledger voting and migration, or the same wallet on your Mac. Pick Zodl for Flexa store payments or view-only accounts. Zingo! and Zkool are lighter alternatives.

This roundup is written by the Vizor team. We link every claim to an App Store listing or release note, and we say where another wallet is the better pick.

Sources: each wallet's App Store listing and release notes, plus Zodl's iOS changelog for its Ledger limits. "Not on listing" means we couldn't confirm it from the listing or release notes, not that it's missing.

How we picked

  • A live App Store listing with a release in the last 60 days.
  • Shielded ZEC support. Transparent-only wallets are out.
  • NU7 readiness, checked against each wallet's release notes. NU7 activates at block 3,543,405 (ZIP 259). For live status, use the NU7 readiness board.
  • Ratings with their counts, as the App Store showed them on November 4, 2026. A 5.0 from one rating isn't the same as a 4.9 from 124.

Vizor: best for Ledger, several accounts, and a matching desktop app

Vizor is a self-custody Zcash wallet built around shielded ZEC, made by a team with years of experience building crypto wallets. It's open source under Apache-2.0.

What it does on iPhone

From the App Store listing and its version history:

  • Shielded by default. Receive to shielded Unified Addresses, send from your shielded balance, and shield transparent funds after they arrive.
  • Multiple accounts in one wallet, including several recovery phrases and hardware accounts.
  • Ledger over Bluetooth (0.0.43), with Bluetooth for Ledger Flex and Nano Gen 5 (0.0.48) and coinholder voting from Ledger (0.0.47).
  • Keystone over QR, including TEX sends with a guided two-step approval (0.0.29).
  • Tor (0.0.23) to hide your IP address from the server.
  • Experimental Private queries (0.0.50), which look up your transactions without revealing their IDs to the server.
  • ZEC gift cards and payment requests (0.0.41). See Zcash gift cards.
  • Preset or custom lightwalletd servers, an app password, privacy mode, and auto-lock after 15 minutes in the background (0.0.50).
  • NU7-ready in 0.0.60.

The same wallet runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux, and you can link desktop to Vizor Mobile with a one-time QR code.

Ledger on iPhone

Vizor supports Ledger over Bluetooth on iPhone, and Ledger accounts can vote and, since v0.0.63, move Orchard funds to Ironwood. Update the Ledger Zcash app to 3.10.0 or newer first. Full steps: Ledger with shielded ZEC on your phone.

Why people are choosing Vizor

Vizor ships fast. It published 63 desktop releases between April 23 and October 30, 2026, and shipped its guided Ironwood migration the day Ironwood activated.

Sean Bowe, a Zcash co-founder and its first engineer, wrote in August:

Personally switched from Zodl to @VizorWallet for Zcash!

It helps that all of these incredible optimizations we're shipping in Zakura this week have an easy path into Vizor.

It's your wallet developer's wallet.

The honest catch

Vizor is new. Its first desktop release was April 2026, and the iPhone app has been on the App Store since June 2026, so it has fewer ratings than Zodl. It has no in-store payments, view-only accounts, or tax CSV export in its release notes. Zodl has all three.

Zodl (formerly Zashi): best for Flexa payments and view-only accounts

Zodl is the renamed Zashi, built by the team that left Electric Coin Company to form Zcash Open Development Lab. It needs iOS 16 or later.

  • Pay at stores with ZEC through Flexa, and pay in other assets with CrossPay.
  • View-only accounts from a full viewing key, added in 3.18.
  • Ledger over Bluetooth since 3.17.0, one account at a time. Its notes say voting and migration don't work with Ledger yet.
  • NU7-ready in 3.19.0, which also pauses private migration until the upgrade.

Pick Zodl if store payments or watching an account without spending from it matter more to you than desktop or Ledger voting. Our Zodl vs Vizor comparison goes feature by feature.

Other shielded options on iPhone

  • Zingo! sends ZEC and memos privately, shields transparent funds, and manages servers for you. Version 3.0.0 added NU7 support and a Swap tab. It has 9 ratings, so expect a smaller community.
  • Zkool is the successor to YWallet, from the same developer. It's a multi-account wallet that imports many key formats, lets you choose pools, and supports multi-recipient payments. Its own listing calls its interface "minimal and basic." Version 6.36.0 lists NU7 support.
  • Unstoppable is a multi-coin wallet that can shield transparent ZEC from the Send screen. It needs iOS 17. We didn't find an NU7 note in its latest release, so check the readiness board.

Ledger on iPhone: what works today

Ledger's own app supports shielded ZEC on desktop only, and Ledger says mobile support is coming. To use a Ledger for shielded ZEC on an iPhone today, pair it with Vizor or Zodl over Bluetooth. Your keys stay on the Ledger, and you approve each transaction on the device. Ledger says the Nano S isn't supported for shielded ZEC.

How to spot a fake Zcash app on the App Store

Fake wallet apps do get into the App Store. In April 2026, Kaspersky reported 26 fraudulent apps that mimicked popular wallets such as MetaMask and Ledger and led users to install trojanized wallets that stole recovery phrases. Kaspersky's advice applies to Zcash too:

  1. Start from the official site. Open the App Store link from the wallet's website, not from search results or ads. Vizor's links are at vizor.cash/get.
  2. Check the listing. The name, icon, developer, and version history should match what the website describes. A brand-new listing with no history is a warning sign.
  3. Never install a "developer profile" an app or website asks you to add. Kaspersky found that's how the trojanized apps got onto iPhones.
  4. Never type your recovery phrase anywhere except the wallet's own restore screen. No support agent, website, or pop-up needs it.

Set up a shielded wallet on iPhone in 5 steps

  1. Install Vizor from the App Store and create a wallet.
  2. Write the recovery phrase on paper and store it offline. See how to store ZEC safely.
  3. Send a small test amount to your shielded address.
  4. Shield any transparent ZEC. Exchange withdrawals often arrive on a transparent address. Shield them before you spend.
  5. Send privately from your shielded balance to a u1 or zs address. See how to send ZEC.

Why iPhone wallets sync only while open

iOS limits how long apps can work in the background, so Zcash wallets mostly sync while they're open. Zodl's 3.9.0 notes say its iPhone migration needs you to reopen the app for each step because of Apple's background limits. Vizor's iPhone 0.0.59 keeps sync progress across restarts, so reopening picks up where it left off. Open the app now and then and let it catch up.

FAQ

What is the best Zcash wallet for iPhone?

For most people, a shielded-by-default wallet that is ready for NU7. On iPhone, Vizor and Zodl (formerly Zashi) both qualify, and both work with Ledger over Bluetooth and Keystone. Pick Vizor for several recovery phrases in one app, Ledger voting and migration, or the same wallet on a computer. Pick Zodl for store payments through Flexa or view-only accounts.

Can I use a Ledger with shielded ZEC on iPhone?

Yes, but not through Ledger's own app, which supports shielded ZEC only on desktop. On iPhone, pair the Ledger over Bluetooth with a companion wallet such as Vizor or Zodl 3.17 and later. Vizor's iPhone notes name Ledger Flex and Nano Gen 5. Keep the Ledger Zcash app at 3.10.0 or newer for NU7.

Which iPhone Zcash wallets are ready for NU7?

Vizor 0.0.60, Zodl 3.19.0, Zingo! 3.0.0, and Zkool 6.36.0 all list NU7 support in their App Store release notes as of November 4, 2026. For other wallets, check the community NU7 readiness board and the wallet's own release notes.

How do I know a Zcash app in the App Store is real?

Open the App Store link from the wallet's official website instead of searching. Check that the app name, developer, and version history match what the website describes. A real wallet only asks for your recovery phrase on its own create or restore screen, never in a pop-up, web page, or message.

Why does my iPhone Zcash wallet only sync when it's open?

iOS limits how long apps can run in the background, so Zcash wallets mostly sync while they are open. Zodl notes that on iPhone its Ironwood migration needs you to reopen the app for each step. Vizor keeps sync progress across restarts, so reopening picks up where it left off.
