Best Zcash Wallets in 2026: Shielded, NU7-Ready Picks for Phone, Desktop and Ledger
Updated November 5, 2026. Last verified: November 5, 2026.
Vizor is our wallet. We include it, say where others are better, and link every claim to its source.
The best Zcash wallet in 2026 keeps ZEC shielded, is ready for NU7, and runs on your device. Vizor is the pick for a Ledger or Keystone on your phone, several accounts, or a computer. Zodl, formerly Zashi, fits Flexa payments. Zingo! and Zkool fit technical setups. Last verified: November 5, 2026.
NU7 activates at block 3,543,405 (ZIP 259). It had not activated when we checked. Blockchair's Zcash stats API reported height 3,542,203 at 01:26 UTC on November 5, 2026, 1,202 blocks short. At the pre-upgrade 75-second spacing, that lands early on November 6 (UTC). The height, not the clock, turns the upgrade on.
zecwallet.at's October 25, 2026 page leaves Vizor out, lists Ledger as desktop with mobile "coming soon," and calls desktop the weakest category. Coin Bureau still says "Zashi" and does not mention Vizor. Vizor is in the Zcash wallet directory, on ZecHub, and on the Zcash Labs vote page.
Desktop builds are on Get Vizor.
Quick picks
- Ledger or Keystone on your phone, several accounts, or the same wallet on a computer: Vizor.
- Paying in shops through Flexa, or a view-only account: Zodl (formerly Zashi). Mobile only.
- A lighter app, with TEX addresses: Zingo!, per zecwallet.at.
- Tor, Nym, multisig, or a path off YWallet: Zkool. Docs: Tor and Nym, FROST.
- Other coins in the same app, with shielded ZEC: Edge, Unstoppable, and Cake Wallet.
- A hardware wallet: Ledger or a Keystone 3 Pro with a shielded companion. Ledger Wallet's shielded ZEC is desktop only. On a phone, use Vizor or Zodl.
Zcash wallets compared (November 2026)
Ratings and versions below are from the US iTunes lookup API and each Google Play listing, fetched November 5, 2026. Play ratings are the listing's aggregate, rounded to one decimal. "Not on listing" means the store page, changelog, or docs we opened did not state it.
Edge, Unstoppable, and Cake ratings cover every coin in those apps, not Zcash alone. Install bands are the Play "Downloads" figure on November 5, 2026.
How we picked
The same bar applies to every row, including Vizor. A wallet had to be on the App Store and Google Play, with a store update after September 6, 2026. We looked for shielded spending, or a doc that says funds arriving in the open get shielded. Vizor's iPhone history says receive addresses use Ironwood only as of 0.0.47, and ZecHub marks the wallets in this table Ironwood-ready. Where a wallet's own page is silent, the table says so.
NU7 is block 3,543,405. ZIP 259 also shortens the target spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds and makes version 4 transactions invalid after activation. A row is NU7-ready only when that wallet's own notes say so. Licenses we opened: Vizor is Apache-2.0, Zodl's iOS repo is MIT, and Zkool is MIT. Unstoppable and Cake say they are open source on their listings. Edge's listing does not. We build Vizor, which is why the picks name the job, and why Zodl and Zkool win some of them.
Vizor: best if you want Ledger on your phone, several accounts, or desktop too
Vizor is a self-custody Zcash wallet for shielded ZEC, on the App Store and Google Play. The first public release, v0.0.1, was April 23, 2026.
What you get
The listing says you receive to a shielded Unified Address or a transparent address, send from the shielded balance, and shield transparent funds after they arrive. It lists multiple accounts and Keystone. v0.0.1 added multiple seeds in one database. Desktop v0.0.35 rotates the transparent receive address after each deposit. Swap on the site uses NEAR Intents. Zcash Labs lists Vizor for the NU7 vote. iPhone 0.0.23 adds Tor, and the Get Vizor FAQ says both phone apps support Tor and Ledger over Bluetooth. See Zcash wallets with Tor.
Hardware wallets
iPhone 0.0.43 adds Ledger. iPhone 0.0.48 adds Bluetooth for Ledger Flex and Nano Gen 5, and 0.0.47 adds Ledger voting. On a computer, v0.0.56 uses USB on Windows, Linux, and macOS, and Bluetooth on macOS for Nano X, Flex, and Stax. Keystone connects over QR, per Keystone's Vizor guide. Phone support cited here is Bluetooth.
Every platform
iPhone needs iOS 15 or later. Android is on Google Play. v0.0.63, October 30, 2026, ships a macOS DMG, a Windows x64 installer, and Linux AppImages for x86_64 and aarch64, with .sha256 and .asc files for Linux. The macOS pipeline uses an Apple Developer ID and notarizes the app and the DMG. How to check the Windows installer is in Zcash desktop wallets.
The honest catch
Vizor is the newer app. v0.0.1 shipped on April 23, 2026. It has fewer ratings than Zodl: 52 on the App Store against Zodl's 124, and 70 on Google Play against Zodl's 233. A formal third-party audit is planned, and it is not done. That sentence is on the Get Vizor FAQ. Vizor is built by the team behind Keplr Wallet, which has more than 2 million users, The Block reported in January 2025.
People still move to it. Sean Bowe, who co-founded Zcash, wrote on August 19, 2026: "Personally switched from Zodl to @VizorWallet for Zcash!" and "It's your wallet developer's wallet." (post). On October 13, 2026 he added: "The cutting edge of privacy tech is deployed first in Zcash. And those features and integrations ship first in Vizor." (post). Zodl still wins Flexa payments and, on Android, view-only accounts. The head-to-head is Zodl vs Vizor.
Or install on a computer from Get Vizor.
Zodl (formerly Zashi): best for Flexa payments and a long Zcash track record
Zodl's site says Zashi is now Zodl and calls the app a Zcash-powered mobile wallet. We found no desktop build there. The current store version is 3.19.0 on both the App Store (iOS 16 or later) and Google Play. The iOS repo is MIT-licensed.
Pick Zodl when you want Flexa. The homepage says Flexa handles checkout. The listing also describes swaps to and from shielded ZEC, and CrossPay, where shielded ZEC pays out as BTC or a stablecoin.
iOS 3.17.0 (October 9, 2026) connects one Ledger account over Bluetooth and puts Keystone in the same hardware flow. Android 3.17.0 (October 10) does the same, and its notes say voting and migration do not work with Ledger yet. Android 3.18.0 adds a view-only account from a Unified Full Viewing Key: it can receive and cannot send. The App Store notes for 3.19.0 add NU7 and pause a private migration until the upgrade. The iOS changelog on GitHub still ends at 3.17.1, so for iOS 3.19 the store notes are the source we could read. Where Zodl is the better pick, feature by feature, is Zodl vs Vizor.
Zingo! and Zkool: for lighter or more technical setups
Zingo! 3.0.0 on the App Store (November 2, 2026) and on Google Play (November 1) says it adds NU7 support. The description says you can shield transparent funds. It does not say shielded-by-default, and it does not mention Ledger or Keystone. zecwallet.at calls it the lightweight pick, with spend-before-sync, memos, and TEX addresses. ZecHub also lists a separate desktop app, Zingo PC. That app is outside this row. See Zcash desktop wallets.
Zkool is where YWallet's README sends Zcash users. App Store 6.36.0 (Ycash Foundation, November 2, 2026) says "Support for NU7," calls the wallet multi-account, and says it does not automatically shield funds. The 6.36.0 GitHub notes we read do not contain the word NU7, so the NU7 line here is the App Store note. Play lists the same version under the name Parallax Scroll, and the description we fetched still opens by describing YWallet. Install from the docs or the MIT-licensed repo, and match the publisher on the store page. The docs cover Tor, the Nym mixnet, a proxy, and FROST multisig. One App Store rating is a thin record. It is not, by itself, a reason to treat the app as a fake.
Edge, Unstoppable and Cake Wallet: if you hold other coins
These three hold many coins. Ratings in the table are for the whole app.
Edge 4.52.2 on the App Store and Play has release notes about splitting Bitcoin into eCash. Neither listing we fetched mentions Zcash or NU7. zecwallet.at lists Edge with Ironwood and Sapling. Treat that as a secondary source until Edge's own page says the same.
Unstoppable 0.53.1 says you can shield transparent ZEC from Send, claims full shielded Zcash support, and says the app is open source. The Play what's new we fetched is about Tron, Base, and Optimism, with no NU7 line. The App Store seller is BIZNES APPS, OSOO. Play says Horizontal Systems. Read both pages.
Cake Wallet docs say it supports shielded, unified, Sapling, and transparent addresses, and that it shields transparent funds automatically. New wallets default to a 12-word BIP39 seed. App Store 6.5.3 notes say "Zcash on Ledger" and "Ready for Zcash NU7." Play is still 6.5.2, and that what's-new text does not mention NU7 or Ledger.
Best Zcash wallet by device
iPhone
Vizor (iOS 15) and Zodl (iOS 16) both have NU7 notes on the current App Store version. Vizor adds several accounts and a desktop app. Zodl adds Flexa. The iPhone table is the best Zcash wallet for iPhone.
Android
The same split holds, plus Zodl's view-only accounts in Android 3.18 and an F-Droid link on Zodl's site. Install from Play or the developer's own repo. See the best Zcash wallet for Android.
Mac, Windows, Linux
Vizor publishes all three in v0.0.63. Zodl's site describes a mobile wallet and no desktop app. Zingo PC and Zkool ship desktop builds of their own. How to check a download is in Zcash desktop wallets.
Hardware wallets and shielded ZEC
Ledger's own app can hold shielded ZEC on a computer, and it cannot on a phone yet. The September 23, 2026 announcement says shielded ZEC in Ledger Wallet is "Available on Ledger Wallet Desktop only. Mobile support is not available at this time." On a phone, pair the Ledger with a companion that already speaks Bluetooth: Vizor, or Zodl 3.17 and later. The walkthrough is Ledger with shielded ZEC on your phone.
Which models the current Zcash app supports is Ledger's statement. The October 19, 2026 delivery report lists Ledger Wallet Desktop 4.21 or later and Zcash app 3.9.4 or later on Nano S Plus, Nano X, Flex, Stax, and Nano Gen5 (post). A September 23 Ledger post on the same thread says every current signer is supported and the original Nano S is not, and will not be. ZecHub lists Nano S Plus, Nano X, Stax, and Flex, and says the app is not built for the original Nano S. It does not name Nano Gen5. Vizor v0.0.63 asks for Zcash app 3.10.0 or newer before NU7.
A Keystone 3 Pro signs over QR on Cypherpunk firmware 2.5.0 or later, per Keystone's Vizor guide. Setup and the October 2026 breach notes are in Keystone and shielded ZEC.
Trezor says its devices "only support public transactions using t-addresses" and that shielded transactions are not compatible. See how to store ZEC.
Wallets that no longer support Zcash
Use their own words.
YWallet. The README says "YWALLET DOES NO LONGER SUPPORT ZCASH SINCE THE IRONWOOD UPDATE" and, for Zcash, "please migrate to ZKOOL." It also says the coins are safe and that further updates are limited to security fixes and protocol updates.
Nighthawk. The App Store description says it "no longer supports outgoing ZEC transactions" and tells you to import the seed into another Zcash wallet. The changelog entry for 2.3.2 on 2025-09-29 says "Notify users of the end of support for sending ZEC in Nighthawk." The listing itself says support for Zcash has effectively ended.
Zashi. Zodl's site says Zashi is now Zodl. That is a rename through the app you already have.
Import the same recovery phrase into a current wallet and let it scan. Vizor's FAQ says that import works. The steps are in how to restore a Zcash wallet. Orchard funds still need a move into Ironwood: Orchard to Ironwood.
How to pick in 30 seconds
| If you are… | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| On a phone, and you also want a computer, several accounts, or a Ledger | Vizor | iPhone, Android, and desktop builds. Ledger over Bluetooth on the phone apps. Multiple seeds in one wallet. |
| Paying at a shop, or watching an account you cannot spend | Zodl | Flexa on the Zodl site. View-only accounts in the Android 3.18 changelog. Mobile only. |
| After a light Zcash app, including TEX | Zingo! | Store notes add NU7 in 3.0.0. zecwallet.at credits it with TEX and memos. |
| After Tor, Nym, multisig, or a YWallet import | Zkool | Docs for Tor, Nym, and FROST. YWallet's README points here. |
| Holding other coins in one app | Edge, Unstoppable, or Cake Wallet | Multi-coin apps. Cake's docs state automatic shielding. Confirm Zcash on Edge's own pages before you rely on a roundup. |
| Keeping a larger balance on hardware | Ledger or Keystone 3 Pro with a shielded companion | Ledger's shielded app is desktop-only. Phones use Vizor or Zodl. Keystone signs over QR. |
Stay safe: install the real app
Match the developer name on the store page to the table before you type a recovery phrase. Vizor's row says "see listing" on purpose. Open the store link from Get Vizor and compare that name with the page you are about to install. Start from the wallet's own site when the two stores disagree, as they do for Zodl, Zkool, and Unstoppable.
The longer checklist is Zcash wallet scams. A real wallet asks for the recovery phrase on its own create or restore screen. A website, a pop-up, or a support chat asking for the phrase is not the wallet.
Next steps
Once the app is installed, the practical guides are how to store ZEC and how to send ZEC, including TEX exchange addresses. If you are leaving YWallet, Nighthawk, or another seed-based wallet, use restore and import the phrase. You do not need to send the balance to yourself.
Desktop, and every other build: Get Vizor.
FAQ
What is the best Zcash wallet in 2026?
The best Zcash wallet is one that keeps your ZEC shielded by default, is ready for NU7, and runs on the device you use. Vizor, on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows, and Linux, is the pick if you want a Ledger or Keystone on your phone, several accounts, or desktop too. Zodl, formerly Zashi, suits mobile-only users who want Flexa store payments. Zingo! and Zkool suit technical users. NU7 activates at block 3,543,405 and had not activated as of November 5, 2026.
Which Zcash wallets are shielded by default and NU7-ready?
Vizor sends from a shielded balance and is NU7-ready: iOS 0.0.60, desktop v0.0.63, and the Android Play listing says Ready for NU7. Zodl 3.19.0 adds NU7 in its store notes, and its listing is built around shielded ZEC. Zingo! 3.0.0 notes add NU7, and the listing says it shields transparent funds. Cake Wallet's docs say it shields transparent funds automatically, and the iOS 6.5.3 notes say Ready for Zcash NU7. Zkool's iOS 6.36.0 notes say Support for NU7, and the same listing says it does not automatically shield funds. Edge and Unstoppable do not mention NU7 on the listings checked November 5, 2026.
What's the best Zcash wallet for iPhone? For Android? For desktop?
On iPhone and Android, pick Vizor for several accounts, Ledger on the phone, or the same wallet on a computer, and pick Zodl for Flexa store payments. Zodl's Android 3.18 changelog also adds view-only accounts. On Mac, Windows, and Linux, Vizor publishes desktop builds, including a notarized macOS DMG and Linux AppImages with checksums and signatures. The iPhone, Android, and desktop guides go further.
Can I use a Ledger or Keystone with shielded ZEC on my phone?
Yes, through a companion wallet. Ledger Wallet handles shielded ZEC on desktop only for now. On iPhone or Android, Vizor and Zodl 3.17 and later connect to a Ledger over Bluetooth and sign shielded transactions on the device. A Keystone 3 Pro pairs with Vizor over QR on Cypherpunk firmware. Ledger's October 2026 delivery report lists Nano S Plus, Nano X, Flex, Stax, and Nano Gen5 for the Zcash app. The original Nano S is not supported. Keep the Ledger Zcash app at 3.10.0 or newer for NU7.
Is Zashi still available? What happened to YWallet and Nighthawk?
Zashi was renamed Zodl. Zodl's site says Zashi is now Zodl. YWallet's developer says it no longer supports Zcash since the Ironwood update and points users to Zkool. Nighthawk's App Store description says it no longer supports outgoing ZEC transactions and tells users to import their seed into another Zcash wallet. Restore the same recovery phrase in a current wallet. The keys are the same, so the funds come with the phrase.
Which wallets should I avoid if I want privacy?
Avoid a wallet that can hold only transparent ZEC. Trezor says its devices only support public transactions using t-addresses, and that shielded transactions are not compatible. A transparent address shows the balance and the payments to anyone who looks. For private storage, use a wallet that spends from a shielded balance, and turn on Tor if the wallet offers it.
